MARY BARTON or MARY PORTER
There seems to be confusion about these two women. Some people think their the same person and others disagree that they are two different wives of Elijah LATHROP (1775-1871). There is a Mary LATHROP buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in the LATHROP area. Is it the grave of one of the above or neither? Elijah LATHROP's brother George's wife was named Mary.
At Ancestry.com the biography listing for Elijah LATHROP states:
"Born in Lebanon, New Hampshire, USA on 24 Feb 1775 to Elijah Lathrop and Elizabeth Elderkin. Elijah married Mary Porter and had 5 children. He passed away on 1871".
A marriage record for Elijah & Mary Porter has Mary named Polly.
NAME:
Elijah Lathrop
SPOUSE:
Polly Porter
MARRIAGE:
26 Aug 1804 - Lebanon, Grafton, New Hampshire
According to the book "History of Washtenaw County, Michigan and biographies of representative" it states that "Elijah Ltahrop (deceased) was born at Lebanon, Conn., Feb. 25,1776, and was married to Mary Barton Aug 26, 1809. He located land on section 18, Pittsfield tp., Sept. 28, 1832. His wife died Feb. 25, 1846, and he lived with his son the remainder of his life. Mr. Lathrop died Aug. 25, 1871, aged 95 years".
With that above information we can say:
Elijah LATHROP married Mary PORTER 26 Aug 1804 at Lebanon, Grafton, New Hampshire and Mary BARTON on August 26, 1809.
NEW QUESTION:
Which Mother belongs to which child?
In the Huntington Memoirs Elijah LATHROP's children are listed as:
"children of Elijah Lathrop and Mary Porter are"
Horace Lathrop, born 1806
Orville Lathrop, born 1808

Godfrey Pierce died in the State Prison, October 4th, 1858. He was not in good health at the time he was sentanced; and he had been feeble during the entire period of his confinement. Each summer he has had the bowel complaint, and two years ago he came very near dying. About the middle of last May, he began to suffer again from diarrhoea, and although relieved at that time, he was still obliged to use medicine most of the time during the season, to keep the disease in check. About the middle of August his complaint assumed the dysenteric form, and, although at times he appeared to be better, still he gradually failed, and finally sunk under it. He was nearly 67 years of age, and had been in Prison about 4 1/2 years.

What I'm working on now....The Peirce's of 1790 Coventry, RI
I'm starting a new search of the Peirce families found in the 1790 Coventry, Kent, RI census. I'm trying to find a connection to Godfrey Peirce and a William Peirce, Jr. both of Coventry, RI and Foster, Providence, RI.
I am hoping to that the William listed below is the father of the above William. I believe at this point of my research there is a strong possibility that Godfrey and William are brothers.
Who is this family living next to each other?
How are they connected?

Peirce, Benjamin 1 2 1 - -
Peirce, William 1 1 2 - -
Key:
