Douglas Saxton / Saston was born about 1803 in New York, parents unknown.

Douglas appears in the 1850 Federal census residing in Frenchtown,​ Monroe,​ Michigan at the home of Salmon Owen. Douglas' occupation was listed as a Miner.

Douglas left Frenchtown shortly after the 1850 census enumeration for Ann Arbor, Michigan where he married on 17 Apr 1851 at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw,​ Michigan, Miss Mary Munson. Douglas was 48 years old and Mary was 44.

On 24 May 1856 at Ann arbor, Washtenaw,​ Michigan, Douglas, age 53, married Louisa / Louiza Lathrop,age 43 the widow of Orvil Lathrop of Pittsfield, Michigan.

In the 1860 census, Douglas is residing with wife Louisa, and his 12 year old step daughter, Helen Lathrop in the 3rd ward of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Douglas' occupation is listed as a Drayman. Residing next door to them was Edgar P Lathrop, Orvil Lathrop's son, wife, Mary E. and daughter Ella.

After the enumeration of the 1860 census, the whereabouts of Douglas are unknown.

I do know that his wife Louisa married on October 28, 1869 at Washtenaw, Michigan to Hiram Welch.
